Sustainability Pledge

At Herd Alpaca Apparel we are committed to creating luxurious alpaca knitwear that contributes to a more ethical and sustainable fashion industry. Here’s what we promise

  • Ethical Sourcing

We source our alpaca fibre not only from our own UK based animals but also from local farms where the animals are all known to us. By doing so, we support responsible practices that prioritise the well-being of both animals and communities.

  • We will not use Dyes

Our commitment to eco-friendly production extends to the processing of fibre into yarn. We never use dyes, minimising the environmental impact and ensuring the beautiful, vibrant colours of the alpacas are kept for all to enjoy.

  • Circularity

We believe in circular fashion. Herd's products are designed for longevity but if you are ready to let them go, they can then be recycled or composted.

  • Transparency and Traceability

We oversee the whole journey from the 'alpaca to the apparel' and are very proud of the animals and production partners we work with.

  • Care Instructions

We provide care instructions to help you maintain your knitwear’s quality. Proper care ensures that your favourite alpaca pieces last for years to come.

  • Regenerative Farming and Herd Alpaca Apparel

Alpacas are remarkable creatures that graze without uprooting plants. Unlike some other livestock, they nibble only the upper parts of grass, allowing immediate regeneration. Alpacas have a small ecological footprint. Their selective grazing ensures that the grass continues to replenish itself, minimising the need for extensive field rotation. Alpaca poop is rich in nutrients and doesn’t require composting thus creating an amazing natural fertiliser. This can be directly applied to fields, enhancing soil health, and promoting plant growth. Alpacas coexist harmoniously with other farm animals and wildlife and there are plenty of these in the New Forest! The alpacas gentle impact allows native plants and insects to thrive, supporting the overall biodiversity of this special area of the United Kingdom.

Join us on this journey toward a more sustainable and compassionate fashion industry.
